Make The Most Of Your Time

In the new global economy with the modern hustle and bustle, the New York minute is becoming more universal with more and more people finding they cannot get everything done that they need to. By employing a few simple tips, however, one can make the most of the time a day has to offer.

The first step is to invest in a planner

You don’t have to spend much. The planner should map out the next year in the form of columns for each day to write in. You must get in the habit of having this planner nearby at all times, as this is going to make you very effective. Throughout the course of the day, we all have quick flashes in our minds of mundane things that we need to do. Whether it be fixing the shower door, giving Fido a flea bath or repairing the leaky pipe under the kitchen sink, these tasks begin to add up, making it entirely possible for some of them to slip your mind when free time comes along. Add this to the list of things you plan to purchase the next time you visit the store, and you are looking at a complete brain overload. This is where you employ the planner.

As one of these thoughts enter your mind, capture it immediately by writing it down on the date that you want or need it completed. If the task to be performed is a large one, the best way to ensure it gets finished is to dillute it. For example, if you need to organize your garage, which is in a state of disarray, it would be very disheartening to read in your planner for Sunday afternoon, “organize garage.” The looming task has most likely been postponed due to it’s magnitude.

Rather, write down, “Take all large, unwanted items from garage to the dump.” This is the first step of many to completing the task, and much less overwhelming. Make sure that, as you cross that off your list upon completion, consider the next step in your mind and schedule it for another convenient day.

Life can get overwhelming at times with so much to do with so little time. Things that go through your mind as you drift off to sleep all too easily slip away, including the tasks that need completed. By consistently taking the thoughts hostage on paper, you can ensure their execution will not slip into a sea of forgetfulness.
