One of the many pleasures of visiting new countries is the opportunity to enjoy some exploring. Every nation has its own unique character, and discovering all about the history and heritage of any destination is always a pleasure. Here are four tourist destinations which are so much more than just a collection of beaches, hotels and restaurants.
Cape Cod
This stunning region, which is part of the state of Massachusetts, is home to a wide selection of quaint villages and hamlets that take the visitor back to a bygone age when life was slower and more relaxed. At the northern tip of Cape Cod lies Provincetown, a stunning town that is home to iconic stores and art galleries that are all well worth a visit. For a genuinely memorable day, take a boat trip from the harbour to do some whale-watching, but make sure you take your camera!
Haute-Savoie
The European Alps are truly spectacular in both the winter and summer months, and offer motorists a novel driving experience. This popular region is in France, and borders both Switzerland and Italy. The skyline is dominated by the majestic Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe. The town of Morzine is a well-known ski resort but it also attracts plenty of tourists in the warmer season. The nearest major airport is actually Geneva, which is located just across the border in Switzerland.
Venice
Perhaps the most distinctive city in the world, Venice is located in northern Italy. It famously has no conventional streets in the centre, because it’s a series of islands that are connected by bridges. Instead of roads, there are canals, and the superb Grand Canal is the best known of them all. Anyone who visits the city will be struck by the amazing architecture of the historic buildings as well as the beauty of the bridges. The Rialto is the most impressive of them all, so be sure to take a stroll across it when you’re in Venice.
Florida
The Sunshine State is perhaps best known these days for its connection to the Disney empire, but there is so much more to the area than that. Many tourists include a day or two of exploring in their itineraries, and they are rewarded with an excellent all-round view of an iconic slice of Americana. One of the must-visit places is Daytona Beach, home to large expanses of golden sand and of course a crystal-clear ocean. It’s located on the Atlantic coast on the western shores of the state. On the eastern side you’ll find Clearwater, a wonderfully quirky town that caters for thousands of tourists every month.
